Matcha isn’t just a drink — it’s a ritual, a culture, and a lifestyle. When Matcha District approached Koded to design their full visual identity, the goal was simple:

Create a modern matcha brand that breaks clichés and brings edge, clarity, and attitude to the green-tea space.

From the logo design to packaging, signage, and marketing graphics, every detail needed to feel bold, contemporary, and unmistakably Matcha District.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how the brand came to life.

1. Defining the Brand: Not Your Average Matcha

Matcha District’s slogan — “Not your average matcha. Fuel the ritual.” — set the tone from the start. We positioned the brand to feel:

  • Clean but bold

  • Minimal but expressive

  • Natural but not “earthy”

  • Premium but accessible

This meant avoiding the traditional soft, zen-inspired matcha aesthetics.

Instead, we built a brand that feels urban, confident, and design-led — crafted for the modern matcha drinker.

2. Logo Design: Clean, Strong, Distinct

The logo needed to serve multiple uses — cups, labels, signage, merch, digital assets — while still feeling iconic. We designed a sharp, balanced logotype with modern geometry and strong letterforms to create:

  • Immediate recognition

  • High legibility across small and large sizes

  • A timeless aesthetic that avoids trends

  • A bold presence in retail and online

The Matcha District logo reflects energy and clarity — the same qualities matcha offers as a product.

3. Packaging Design: Built for Shelf Impact

In a saturated wellness market, packaging must do more than look pretty — it needs to stand out instantly. Koded designed packaging that is:

Minimalist, punchy, and premium.

Key design choices:

  • High-contrast typography for quick brand recall

  • Clean colour palette inspired by matcha tones but kept modern

  • Modular layouts so future product lines (ceremonial grade, latte blends, iced matcha powders) can expand seamlessly

  • Clear hierarchy for ingredients, preparation instructions, and certifications

  • Social-ready visuals optimised for ecommerce and Instagram

The result: packaging that looks as good on a shelf as it does in a flatlay or unboxing video — crucial for a modern beverage brand.
